Meaning “red valley” in Afrikaans, Roodepoort is a sprawling residential area located in South Africa’s Gauteng province. The town takes its name from the rich red soil in the region and its history dates back to 1884, when a man
called Fred Struben discovered payable gold at the Confidence Reef, a large rocky outcrop in the centre of Roodepoort. Today, the town
remains a gold mining centre in Johannesburg’s West Rand area and is dominated in parts by
light industry and small business.
Roodepoort is made up of various residential suburbs, agricultural land in the north, a section of the mining belt in the south and other areas of commercial activity, such as Westgate, Constantia and Laser Park. The residential properties for sale in Roodepoort are set in some of the most charming suburbs Johannesburg has to offer, with houses and apartments taking full advantage of rolling hills and superb views of the city in the east and the Magaliesberg in the west. Those who buy property here have access to an excellent infrastructure, with a number of good schools, private hospitals, plenty of open space, golf courses, shopping malls and entertainment centres.
